What is rated current?

Rated current, also known as operating current, is the current at which the connector can work properly at its rated voltage. During the aviation plug design process, thermal design of the connector is used to meet the rated current requirements. As current flows through the contacts, conductor resistance and contact resistance generate heat. When the heat exceeds a certain limit, the plug will damage the insulation, causing the surface coating to soften and leading to failure.
